read in modern translations notes such as Other ancient authorities read, Other ancient authorities add, Other ancient authorities lack, and Many witnesses omit. Let us take Galatians as an example: NIV does not have a single note in Galatians indicating textual problems; REB has only three textual notes; and NRSV has seven. So translators may be surprised when they discover that the Greek New Testament lists twenty-eight places in Galatians alone where ancient manuscripts have different readings.
